Prescriptive
Incentives
Prescriptive incentives are offered on a per unit basis for
common energy saving technologies in the categories of
Lighting, Cooling,

Compact fluorescent lamps and fixtures
q
Upgrading fluorescent T12 fixtures to T8 or T5 lamps and electronic
ballasts
q
Upgrading metal halides (high bay) to T5s
q
De-lamping (permanent fixture retrofit with removal of lamps,
ballasts and tombstones)
q
Upgrading incandescent exit signs to low wattage (£5W)
LED exit signs
q
LED traffic signals
q
Occupancy sensors to control lighting
q
High EER or SEER package air conditioning units
q
Packaged terminal air conditioning units (PTAC)
q
Room Air Conditioners
q
Set-back thermostats
q
Window film
q
Premium efficiency motors
q
Refrigeration technologies
q
VendingMi$er
q
Photovoltaic modules
The following sections detail the
eligible measures under the Sure Bet Prescriptive Incentive.
Incentives are paid on a per lamp basis, except for the
hardwired compact fluorescent fixtures and T5s (paid on a per fixture
basis), LED exit signs (paid on a per unit basis) and occupancy sensors
(paid on a per sensor basis). Please see the Policies
& Procedures for more information.

Air conditioning units that are air, water, or
evaporatively cooled split system, single packaged units, PTAC and room air
conditioning units are
eligible for incentives, as well as the application of window film, which
can decrease the cooling load of a facility. Such equipment must meet the
minimum qualifying efficiency levels as shown in the table below. These
specified energy efficiency qualifications were taken from the Consortium for Energy Efficiency
Tier 2 standards for packaged and split system units, and follow ENERGY STAR®
criteria for Room air conditioners. PTAC units must be 20% above the Federal
Minimum (see the Policies & Procedures for further equipment
specifications). The equipment efficiency rating is the rating at full load for
the entire system.

For For AC units, the total incentive is determined by two components – an
equipment incentive and an efficiency incentive.
Both the equipment and efficiency incentives are applied per ton of
cooling installed. The
equipment qualifies for an equipment incentive if the minimum qualifying
efficiency is met for the equipment size category. In addition, the efficiency
incentive is added on a prorated basis if the equipment exceeds the minimum
qualifying efficiency for the equipment size category. Thus, the Prescriptive
cooling incentive is calculated as follows:
Incentive
= {Equipment Incentive + Efficiency Incentive (SEER1 new
– SEER min)}*tons
1SEER
or EER
For example, if an applicant decides to install a 14 SEER
60,000 Btuh (or Btu/hr) rated air-cooled air conditioner, the following steps
are taken to calculate the Sure Bet incentive:
1.
What is the size category for this unit?
§
The unit is ³
24,000 Btuh and <65,000 Btuh
§
The Tier 2 standard for this size category is a minimum of 13 SEER
or 11.6 EER.
2.
Calculate the tons
§
Divide equipment Btuh by 12,000 Btuh/ton-hr
§
This unit is 60,000 Btuh/12,000Btu/ton-hr
= 5 tons
3.
Calculate the rebate as follows:
Incentive
= {$25/tonEquip. Incen. + $30/Delta SEER ton Eff. Incen.
(14 SEERnew – 13 SEER min)} * 5 tons
= $275

Incentives are based on a motor’s nominal full load
efficiency published by the Consortium for Energy
Efficiency. The incentives are available for motors ranging in size from 1
to 200 horsepower that meet or exceed the efficiency standard listed in the

The following are some common methods of reducing energy usage in
refrigeration. These measures are typically implemented in grocery stores,
but can be applicable in other situations. Sure Bet is offering
incentives for strip curtains on walk-ins, night covers and anti-sweat
heater controls. Each of these measures allows for reduced operation on
refrigerator compressors by reducing heat gain (strip curtains and night
covers) or the need for additional refrigeration by removing excess
humidity on doors (anti-sweat controls).
